PACE- A Study on Carbon Footprint of the Institution
Students of PA College of Engineering, Mangaluru and APD in association conducted a case study on the carbon footprint of the institution and its activities. The study aimed to understand, measure and reduce the pollution that is made by the vehicles of the institution and to create awareness joining APD’s #StopSmokyVehicles campaign. They created placards and posters describing and warning the increased rate of pollution that happens all around them. They faculty and students with APD volunteers pledged their responsibility towards the environment and urged the concerned people to take immediate actions to reduce the factors contributing to pollution. The students also highlighted the importance of choosing other means of travel than depending on motor vehicles that could prove healthy as well.

OVERVIEW
The students were keen at understanding the adverse effects of the smoke emit by their college vehicles. Under this project which was mentored by Marzook Ahmed they studied the impact of the college vehicles on the environment. Their study pattern were useful in calculating the carbon footprint contribution of the public buses. These studies if adopted by other colleges & school institutes who provide transportation for their students, we can measure the carbon footprint of educational institutes and further suggest alternate mode of transportation or means to reduce the contribution of increased carbon by vehicles.
